4 x 4 Blast

By Jon & Susan Matson

We just got back from the 4x4 Blast held in Pittsfield and we had a great time. The weather wasn't as bad as it was for the Illini Safari, but we did have enough rain to make the trails interesting. Since the last time we were there and we had to be towed so many times, we installed mud tires on the Jeep. What a difference they made. We were able to do two days of trail running and we didn't have to be towed at all. What a difference! We even ended up towing someone else one time - that's a first for us.

We moved up to Mossy Mountain Trail which is rated a 2, and it was a lot of fun. Some of the interesting parts involved steep drops into rivers and tight trails through the woods. Two Rivers Jeep Club couldn't have been nicer. I really like the fact that they help out the community as much as they do. The fire department had been sent out to rescue a car crash victim a while ago and their (jaws for life) piece of equipment had malfunctioned. After this event, TRJC presented the fire department with a check for $4500 to help in the acquisition of some new equipment. They fire department chief was noticeably moved. It was nice to be part of an event that helps out the community.
