Paragon Adventure Park, July 2002

Paragon Adventure Park, Hazelton Pennsylvania, July 25 - 27
By Dave Lloyd

Gary and Tonyia Seeland, Frank and Sue Dentice, Alex and Sue Dentice and I headed to Paragon for a long weekend of wheeling. It was really great, and if you like rocks, we highly recommend this trip.

I caught up with Frank and Sue on interstate 80 about 40 miles from Hazelton. Frank had left the day before but had a bulge in one of his trailer tires that morning and had to find a new tire. When I caught up with them, he was putting his new spare on because he had blown the tread off of another tire.

We made it to the motel (Hazelton Motor Inn - do not stay here) and later met up with Alex and Sue. We headed out to Paragon the next day and met up with our guide. We were the only people at the park that day. Our guide, Ray, showed us a great time with lots of action. We convinced him to let us hire him again for the next day. (If you go to Paragon, consider getting a guide - there are too many trails to keep track of and the guides can be very helpful). Frank showed us the way up Impossible hill after a new tie rod was installed.

Gary and Tonyia joined us on Friday. We jumped right in. Gary said something about his jeep being really tested for the first time since his last round of modifications. We made new friends with Daryl and his two sons who were energetic and very amusing. After Daryl lost a bead, his son kept hissing every time anyone went over an obstacle. At one point, Frank was high centered on a rock with all four wheels spinning in the air. The really bad part was that his right rear tire was stirring up a bee's nest. Every time he hit the gas, more bees would fly out of the nest. Needless to say, Daryl and I took the bypass around what I like to call Frank's Folly.

On Saturday, the park came to life with many more visitors and we had a new guide, Lee. Lee took us to rocks, rocks and more rocks. We finally asked if there were any hill climbs or something else beside rocks - Lee took us to some hills. Gary won an award for getting the most air at the top of the hill. We then went back to Impossible hill where Gary, Alex, Frank (again) and I successfully navigated Impossible hill. Alex then took one last shot at Impossible hill from a different angle and got hung up.

On the way home, Frank's other trailer tires went. He lost 4 during the trip. Despite Frank's trailer tire difficulties, it was a really great time for all of us. Gary, Frank and Alex all demonstrated their superior driving skills, superior machines and superior co-pilots.

Points of advice. Go - it is worth the trip. Get a guide - they are great and very helpful.
